SUMMARY:Snow King EIS comment writing workshop #3
DESCRIPTION:National Forest officials released the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for Snow King on January 31. According to the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA)\, the DEIS should include a reasonable set of alternatives representing public concerns voiced during the previous comment period. \nInstead of providing an actual range of alternatives\, each scenario includes controversial summit ziplines\, a road bisecting the face of the hill\, and backside development in important wildlife habitat. Now\, our community has until March 16 to comment on the DEIS before the plan for Snow King’s future is finalized. We believe a better outcome is possible for Snow King than what the developers are proposing. \nSusan Marsh\, a 30-year-veteran of the Forest Service\, will give a presentation on NEPA and offer strategies for crafting effective comment letters. Come meet other concerned Snow King supporters\, enjoy free food\, and write your comments! \nThere are three different times to accommodate different schedules\, and be sure to submit your comments here by March 16\, 2020. View the event on Facebook and invite your friends to get involved!

SUMMARY:Winter Party & Conservation Leadership Institute Celebration
DESCRIPTION:Winter is here and we have a lot to celebrate! \n\n\n \n\n\nJoin the Alliance December 4 as we wrap up our 40th year of conservation work and the 10th round of the Conservation Leadership Institute (CLI).\n\n\n \n\n\nCLI has been part of many wins this year\, such as the success of “Genny on the Block”\, the Plastic Bag ordinance\, and the recent SPET Get Out the Vote push. The Winter Party will be a chance to mingle with Alliance friends and learn what this class of CLI has been doing.\n\n\n \n\n\nThere will be food\, drinks\, and music by local bluegrass band Marmot Ate My Boots.\n\n\n \n\n\n5:30 PM: Welcome and Drinks\n\n\n6:30 PM: CLI Presentations & Graduation\n\n\n7-9 PM: Music by Marmot Ate My Boots\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMarmot Ate My Boots began behind the Hootenanny stage as a random assortment of folks playing music together. After one such moment\, Molly Watters (banjo) decried “Did we just start a band?”\, and the Marmots were born. Comprised of the aforementioned Molly as well as Molly Gibbs (guitar)\, Hannah McLimans (fiddle)\, Amy Lorenz (accordion)\, Joel Sandoval (base\, guitar)\, and Ben Rossetter (mandolin\, guitar)\, Marmot Ate My Boots plays an assortment of acoustic covers of classic folk\, bluegrass\, and americana (as well as the occasional Backstreet Boys cover). They blend exquisite 3-\, 4-\, and sometimes 5-part harmonies with rich instrumentation\, often combining a quick\, foot-stomping fiddle tune with intricate vocals. The Marmots are regulars at the Hootenanny\, and recently opened for Jackson legends Ann and Pete Sibley. Instagram: @marmotatemyboots email: BenRossetter@gmail.com

SUMMARY:Alliance Annual Meeting
DESCRIPTION:For the last 40 years\, the people of the Jackson Hole Conservation Alliance have worked to write good chapters in the story of Jackson Hole. This anniversary year\, we’re celebrating them! Help us get the gang back together. \nJoin us for our Annual Meeting on June 19\, 5-7pm at the Old Wilson Schoolhouse\, featuring an Alliance board/staff/volunteer alumni reunion and our first-ever Conservation Story Slam. Hear stories shared by Alliance friends past and present\, and even put your name in the hat to share a story of your own. The Story Slam theme is “empower.” The theme is open to interpretation\, but we’d like stories to relate to conservation\, wildlife\, or Jackson Hole – and ideally to your time with the Alliance. Judge panel to be revealed soon. \nThe Alliance wouldn’t be what it is today without its members. As a member\, you stay involved with issues you care about\, amplify your voice\, and make our conservation work possible. This includes hearing reports from our team and voting to elect our board members during the Annual Meeting. \nBut you don’t have to be an Alliance member or alum to come to the event – all are welcome\, just show up and bring your friends for snacks\, drinks\, and stories! RSVP and sign up to tell a story below.

SUMMARY:Conservation Power Hour: Wildlife Crossings & Pizza
DESCRIPTION:The Teton County Wildlife Crossings Master plan is the product of collaboration. Funding and implementing the Plan\, including making crossings at the 22/390 intersection\, will be a collaborative process as well. This time though\, there’s also going to be pizza and beer. \nThe Jackson Hole Conservation Alliance\, Greater Yellowstone Coalition and Jackson Hole Wildlife Foundation are working together to make sure the road ahead is clear for getting wildlife crossings funded through a Specific Purpose Excise Tax (SPET) this coming November. \nJoin the three organizations for the first in a series of joint “Conservation Power Hours” Thursday\, May 16 at 5:30pm at Hand Fire Pizza. Learn about wildlife crossings\, hear upcoming plans for SPET\, and take your own action to support the movement. During the “Power Hour\,” each organization will share their unique expertise and experience including wildlife-vehicle collision statistics\, moose movement data\, and details of wildlife crossings structures. There will also be sign up forms to become part of the team that is making wildlife crossings a reality. And did we mention pizza and beer?!
