Prior to his role as Transportation Director, Daniel Smith had over a decade of experience working with Teton County Land Development Regulations, traffic impact studies, and project management. Noteworthy projects he was involved in include the Redmond Street Rentals, JHMR Employee Housing at Powderhorn, and design/construction of much of our community’s excellent Pathway system. Daniel appreciates intelligent design that places a high priority on our natural environment.
Daniel comes to Jackson from North Dakota where he grew up with the Red River in his backyard. He spent his youth on the lakes of Minnesota, and first visited the mountains during a family trip in high school. Upon graduation from the University of North Dakota with a degree in civil engineering, he packed up his car and headed west to Fort Collins, CO (with a stop in Jackson to visit his sister) where he became an avid kayaker and mountain biker.
After four years in Colorado, Daniel moved to Jackson in 2003. He spent two years in Victor, ID and another two in Steamboat Springs, CO, and moved back to Jackson with his wife, Emily, in 2012. They live in East Jackson with their two daughters and enjoy the local trails and introducing their kids to the abundant and amazing nature surrounding them.
