Karyn Greenwood

Development and Marketing Manager

While growing up in suburban Connecticut, Karyn mapped and documented her backyard, observing seasonal changes and delighting in finding critters. Karyn’s parents further indulged her interests with summer camps at a nearby aquarium, nighttime visits to a local observatory, and camping in local forests with the Girl Scouts.

Karyn first moved to Jackson Hole in 2008. In order to intimately understand her new home, Karyn volunteered at the Laurance S. Rockefeller Preserve in Grand Teton National Park. The emotional and spiritual approach of the Preserve spoke to Karyn’s own experience with nature.

With her love for nature reinvigorated by volunteering, Karyn reenrolled in college at the University of Montana. While at UM, Karyn became a founding member of WildHaus – a student group promoting community, access, and advocacy related to the outdoors. Her involvement with WildHaus included leading backpacking trips into the nearby Rattlesnake Wilderness Area, coordinating volunteers for the Bears & Apples program to reduce wildlife conflict, and organizing Bonfire Chats between students and local conservation heroes.

After graduating with her degree in Wildlife Biology, Karyn returned to Jackson Hole and took a job as a Park Ranger in Grand Teton, eventually moving into private guiding in both Grand Teton and Yellowstone. Over the years, Karyn shared her passionate for the parks with hundreds of visitors. Living and working in Jackson Hole led to an epiphany for Karyn, as it had for many conservationists before her – the transcendent experience of the natural world and the action needed to protect it are inextricably linked.

With an eye toward action, Karyn attended the Alliance’s Conservation Leadership Institute. From that launching point, Karyn has taken on a series of roles with the Alliance through the years, building on her skills as a leader, changemaker, and engaged citizen. Karyn is currently working as the Development and Marketing Manager at the Alliance.

When Karyn isn’t at the Alliance, you can find her re-learning the art of joyful exploration from her 4-year-old daughter. A nerd at heart and a “lifelong learner”, the best part of Karyn’s day is when she learns something new.
