Downtown Jackson

Downtown Jackson, the heart of this community, faces unrelenting commercial development. JHCAs Downtown Jackson initiative examines whether current development trends align with the community's vision and identifies policies and LDRs to better balance growth, conservation, and community.

Why It Matters

Development decisions made downtown have ripple effects. Large hotels, commercial buildings, and luxury residential projects increase demands on workforce housing, infrastructure, and public services. This intense, rapid development affects rural and public lands and wildlife habitat.

Downtown Jackson is a community center. Our goal is to ensure downtown remains a place that serves residents and visitors while protecting the natural resources, wildlife, and community character that make Jackson unique.

What We're Working On

JHCA is working to better understand how current development patterns affect our community and environment. Through research, data analysis, stakeholder interviews, and community conversations, we are identifying opportunities to better align future development with Jackson's long-term vision.

The findings from this work will help inform updates to the Comprehensive Plan and Land Development Regulations. We support policies that strike a balance between community-serving development and conservation. Encourage projects that better align future growth with infrastructure, conservation, and community priorities.

Status

The Downtown Jackson initiative is in its first phase, focused on research, data collection, and community engagement.
