HWY 22: Commissioners Meeting

The Wyoming Department of Transportation is considering two options for expanding the HWY 22 corridor from two lanes to four or more lanes. These options are shortsighted, they threaten wetlands and wildlife, and they will not alleviate traffic congestion.
On Monday, June 30, at 9:00 a.m., the Board of County Commissioners will workshop a letter in response to the proposed expansion. Attend the meeting in person or join Zoom. Please provide comments at the meeting and encourage Commissioners to:
-
-
- Request an EIS (Environmental Impact Study) rather than an EA (Environmental Assessment), as the latter is less thorough.
- Ask for an alternative option to address congestion, such as adding turn lanes, acceleration lanes, and traffic circles, rather than just widening the road between bottlenecks.
- Consider the concept of induced demand: when roads are widened, more people will drive on them, ultimately leading to expanded roads becoming just as congested as before.
-
Join JHCA on Monday morning and let the Commissioners know we want innovative solutions for our roadways. We can manage congestion and protect our environment, wildlife, and scenic corridor.
