National Forest officials released the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for Snow King on January 31. According to the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), the DEIS should include a reasonable set of alternatives representing public concerns voiced during the previous comment period.

Instead of providing an actual range of alternatives, each scenario includes controversial summit ziplines, a road bisecting the face of the hill, and backside development in important wildlife habitat. Now, our community has until March 16 to comment on the DEIS before the plan for Snow King’s future is finalized. We believe a better outcome is possible for Snow King than what the developers are proposing.

Susan Marsh, a 30-year-veteran of the Forest Service, will give a presentation on NEPA and offer strategies for crafting effective comment letters. Come meet other concerned Snow King supporters, enjoy free food, and write your comments!
