Wildlife Friendly Fencing is back up at the County Commission Tuesday – help us pass the new rules!

On Tuesday, November 2, the County Commission will meet a second time to discuss and (we hope!) vote on the amended version of Section 5.1.2: Wildlife Friendly Fencing, part of the Natural Resource Land Development Regulations (LDR) update. We are very grateful for the immense amount of work, research, and community input that has gone into the rules update process. We believe the changes to date have improved the code greatly and we urge our commissioners to pass the draft, with one slight additional language change.

We recently learned that some existing fences were granted an exemption from wildlife friendly fence design under the “Special Purpose Fence” exemption. The current draft does not clarify which types of fence qualify (or don’t quality) for exemption. This leaves the regulation open to interpretation. We are asking the commission to close that loophole and add specific language that privacy, decorative, and private property demarcation fences are not exempt from wildlife-friendly fence rules.

Please send in written comment, or give comment at the meeting, urging your Commissioners to close the exemption loophole and then approve the amended version.

Please support the county in changing the rules for wildlife friendlier fencing!
