State Lands Board Continue to Challenge Teton County’s Land Development Regulations

The State Board of Land Commissioners continue to challenge Teton County’s capacity to apply
County land and other regulations on State Trust Lands in Teton County. The State land parcel
just south of Teton Village – the one with the geodesic dome
“glamping” operation – is now being threatened with an industrial burning operation, utilizing
an Air Curtain Burner, based on a permit revision requested by Arbor Works, who leases 1.5
acres on the site. Arbor Works wants to burn its cuttings and other wood refuse on the parcel.
air curtain burners reduce ash and smoke by 80%, according to published studies, but it doesn’t
remove all of them.
While we support the use of Air Curtain Burners for wood refuse removal, we believe the an
industrial activity that will still create ash and smoke is inappropriate at the base of the Tetons,
per our Land Development Regulations.
We wrote the letter below to the Board requesting that they reject the permit revision.
