We appreciate you, Mary Wendell!
This week we’re so excited to spotlight our awesome friend and supporter, Mary Wendell Lampton! Mary Wendell has been a been a huge proponent of the Alliance’s work for many years, but first got involved with the organization during the Safe Wildlife Crossings campaign. “I was in a state of perpetual grief with all the dead moose I saw on the side of the road” she recalls. She became an active supporter of the campaign which eventually received $10M in funding with 79% voter approval of the SPET measure in 2019.
In addition to Safe Wildlife Crossings, Mary Wendell has been involved in a number of other Alliance campaigns, including “Heli-No” and the current Northern South Park neighborhood development process. She has given public comment multiple times, urging our local elected official to prioritize our nature and wildlife.
“I’ve been in Jackson for 30 years, and a lot of the things that are coming to a head now are things that the community has been talking about for 30 years,” Mary Wendell reflects. “With all the newcomers, we’re growing exponentially. We need to be good stewards and also set an example for the rest of the country. With 2 national parks and millions of visiting tourists, we have a platform to be a model community living in balance with nature unlike anyone else.”
Moving forward, Mary Wendell would like to see the Alliance mobilize programs that help make Jackson into a model, sustainable community. “I’d like to see businesses that reflect our values of making nature and wildlife a priority; businesses that cause no harm or stress to animals, and help set the example of what it is to live in balance and respect for the natural world.”
Thank you for your support and everything you do for us, Mary Wendell!
