Grand Targhee Resort, local governments, and the Forest Service presented details of the proposed Grand Targhee expansion, followed by a Q&A with community members.
Nearly 100 people attended the virtual Town Hall Meeting hosted by Teton County, Idaho on Wednesday, December 15 to learn about the proposed expansion at Grand Targhee Resort. The meeting called together the parties involved in the expansion to explain and clarify the complexities of the proposed and approved expansions on public and private land. Representatives from Grand Targhee Resort; the National Forest Service; Teton County, Idaho Board of Commissioners; and Teton County, Wyoming Department of Planning and Building presented a variety of topics relating to the proposed expansion and then hosted a question and answer session.
Speakers gave an overview of the plan for development on 120 acres of private land at the base of the resort (already approved by Teton County, Wyoming), and the separate Master Development Plan for public land. This latter plan is currently under environmental review by the Forest Service. The upcoming draft environmental impact statement will evaluate alternatives ranging from lower to higher impact, and the public will have an opportunity to weigh in over a 90-day comment period in late spring or early summer 2022. Following the comment period, the Forest Service will finalize the final environmental impact statement (FEIS).
The alternatives are not final until the draft is ready, so stay tuned. For now, Forest Service officials pointed to SE Group’s website as the best resource for learning more about the proposal and NEPA process.
We are working to synthesize our notes from the event into a full summary and FAQ for those who couldn’t attend, but if you’re interested you can listen to the audio here.
