Wolverine listed as threatened under the Endangered Species Act

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced that it will protect the wolverine population in the lower 48 states as threatened under the Endangered Species Act — a decision that will provide this rare species with new legal protections and programs for recovery.

The Jackson Hole Conservation Alliance is proud to be part of the coalition of conservation groups who joined Earthjustice in their successful suit in 2022 to vacate a 2020 decision denying wolverines protections, which set the stage for the listing decision this week.

We are so happy to see this high elevation specialist receive additional protections! And this comes at a time when both of our local ski areas are trying to expand into additional high elevation terrain that is likely used by wolverines.

Watch this space to find out more about Targhee Resort’s proposed expansion as well as JHMR’s actions to enact expansion plans detailed on their master plan.
